The InBetween project is the result of a long experience of a research group working with Art and digital technology, in a space located in-between the real and the virtual space.

The project has been realized by Manthos Santorineos (Assistant Professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts and head of the Multimedia-Hypermedia and Video Art Laboratory), Stavroula Zoi (Research and Teaching stuff of the Multimedia-Hypermedia and Video Art Laboratory of the Athens School of Fine Arts), and Nefeli Dimitriadi, (Multimedia artist and researcher).
The project has evolved through collaborations with the Department of Art and Technology of the Image (ATI) of University Paris-8, the Department of Sculpture of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), the Department of Plastic Arts and Arts Sciences of the University of Ioannina, the Digital Studios of the Goldsmiths University of London, the European Architecture Students Assembly meeting 2007(EASA 2007), the Festival MIDEN 2009, and the Fournos Centre for Digital Culture.

The initial idea that triggered the project was the need to revive the concept of the neighborhood through the creation of a multicultural neighborhood on the Internet.
The realization of this idea required, in principle, to create a collaborative web platform. This platform is able to host and dynamically compose houses and cultural elements from participants from around the world, in a single neighborhood.
The evolution of technology that led to the development of social networking tools, as well as the gained experience of the participants, shifted the project interest from the initial concept of the neighborhood to the possibility of defining a space in-between the real and the virtual. The objective of this space is not to create a map of the real space, but to link experience from both these spaces into a single structure that gives new possibilities of expression.
The project is hosted in the ABOUT: cultural venue where the virtual neighborhood will be setup and the experience from the in-between space will be presented.
